A fire dagger will beat a sharp dagger at 40/40, but I believe with a bundle or buff you might be able to beat the fire dagger on riposte and backstab damage. For pure physical characters generally you'll go for a fire dagger, though on dex builds, and I suppose refined builds, then a sharp dagger can work.
